Resonance is a New Jersey based contemporary dance company founded by Artistic Director Elena Mercer. The company creates physically charged work that examines the ways people connect, separate, resist, and transform.

Drawing from contemporary dance, improvisation, and interdisciplinary performance, KINFORM develops work through a collaborative process that places the individual performer at the center of the creative experience.

Background

Company members are versatile performers with diverse backgrounds in contemporary, modern, ballet, jazz, improvisation, and other movement disciplines. Many of our artists are also active educators, choreographers, and independent performers, bringing a broad range of perspectives and experiences into their work with Resonance.

Our dancers come to the company with varied professional and educational backgrounds, from conservatory and university training to years of independent performance and creative work. The collaborative environment at Resonance encourages each artist to continue developing their individual voice while contributing to the company's collective artistic vision.

Together, these experiences create a community of artists committed to exploration, physicality, and continual growth. Resonance provides emerging and established dancers alike with opportunities to deepen their artistry, expand their creative practice, and contribute to new contemporary work.

Resonance's artistic director and company dancers have been creating and presenting dance in performance, educational, and community settings for more than a decade. The company's work is grounded in a commitment to strong technique, individual expression, and the belief that contemporary dance can be both deeply personal and universally accessible.

Through original choreography, collaborative creation, and ongoing artistic development, Resonance brings together artists with diverse movement backgrounds and perspectives. The Resonance Apprentice Program

Starting in September of 2021, our company launched an apprentice program.

This is an opportunity for aspiring teen dancers to join our company as full members for part of the summer or school year. Dancers are primarily nominated for a place in the company, where they train with us for free and are eligible for all performance opportunities our company takes on during the established months. Each dancer returns to their home studio or school with brand new technique and amazing experiences for their resume.
